“We were the people who were not in the papers. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edge of print. It gave us more freedom. We lived in the gaps between the stories.”

The Japanese steamed cakes or mushi-pans are made with very simple ingredients: flour (all-purpose flour or cake flour), baking powder, eggs, milk, sugar, and neutral flavored oil (such as vegetable oil).
These healthy steamed cakes are soft and easy to digest, so they are perfect for small children as well!

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon neutral flavor oil
  1. Gather all the ingredients.
  2. In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients - all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar and cocoa powder. Whisk well to combine
  3. In a small bowl, whisk the egg, oil and milk together until combined.
  4. In a bowl of dry ingredients make a well, pour the egg mixture and mix until smooth.
  5. In my part, I used llanera/liyanera as my molder.
  6. Then, divide the batter into the molder.
  7. Last, place the molder in the steamer and cook it for 8-10minutes.
  8. To check the doneness of the cake, insert a toothpick in the center and put it up, it must be clean and no cake base.
Easy right?

Not bad for a first timer even it looks like an oversized-egg, I will do more soon and try the other flavors.

No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each morning and be thankful that you still have one.  - Unknown

At night, I usually go to the bathroom to clean myself and change my day clothes into a tank top and boxer, the suits I’m comfortable to wear every evening. I always take a deep breath and exhale before going to my bed because finally the long, tiring but happy day is about to finish. Once I lay down my body, it’s a very gratifying emotion. After that I will start remembering the memories that happened in my life on that day and don’t know what happen next.

6:30 in the morning. Tik-ti-la-ok. Tik-ti-la-ok! (my alarm clock sounds like) After an almost 7 hours of sleep, a brand new day will start once I open my eyes but before opening my eyes, I always said to myself, at least 10 minutes of sleep, please? However, the clock will alarm again and it’s like pushing me to wake up.

Waving my hands in the air, yawning very loud and whispering above – thank you God for waking me up!

For me, every day is a blessing and gift. And,
every wake up is really a huge success in my life. Another day, day that needs to be pour with happiness and face the challenges with no fear.
